Happy hunting at the Edelweiss! You may get to hear a lot of hunters' jargon here, but the main point is to have plenty of fun among like-minded people. Of course, along with one or two unforgettable days' skiing on the Arlberg.
The "traditional sunlit ski run at the Edelweiss" is being held for the twenty-fourth time this year. And as skiing at this time of year is most fun in those hours where the snow on the slopes softens up, there is a varied programme of activities for the rest of the day. So it'll definitely never be boring!
Lech, Zürs, Zug, Lech - this circular ski route that has been an inspiration for skiers for over fifty years has been granted the honour of its own race since 2006. The White Ring is the longest ski race in the world and will really take it out of you, with twenty-two kilometres of ski runs and a total difference in altitude of 5,500m to overcome.
There is no obligation to race, by the way; the course can also be achieved without any stress, every day, under no time pressure but with plenty more time to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views! (Incidentally, the fastest time in 2008 was 45 minutes, 43 seconds and 32 tenths of a second!)
One of the most beautiful ski routes ever! You take the bus from Zürs towards Alpe Rauz, descending into Stuben, then up onto the Albona where, after a short climb, you can enjoy the south-facing slopes into the Verwall valley. Your destination is Kurt Fahrner's Verwallhaus, where you take some refreshment before taking the ski taxi towards St Anton.
You continue on the Galzig and Valluga cable-car services to the Valluga summit, and it is only now that it becomes clear to you why this route can only be taken under the supervision of a ski guide. The slopes into the Pazieltal are so steep that is it better not to allow yourself to make any skiing mistakes here.
